Peace Pagoda Darjeeling – Peace Seekers’ Paradise

Darjeeling lately has become one of my favorite places as I started exploring each and every place there. The great Himalayan Railway connecting to Darjeeling is world famous and also listed in the UNESCO Heritage listing. There are many tourist attractions and other places of interest in this town in the state of West Bengal in India. Peace Pagoda Darjeeling is one of the favorite spot of the general travelers and the Buddhists.

Peace Pagoda Darjeeling, also known as Darjeeling Peace Pagoda is one of the major Peace Pagodas designed to offer people with focus in an effort to find world peace. The objective of Peace Pagodas is to united people and lead towards ultimate peace. Darjeeling Peace Pagoda is situated near to the Darjeeling town.

The Peace Pagoda Darjeeling was also built under the direct guidance of Nichidatsu Fujii, a Buddhist monk from Japan who lived during 1885–1985 and constructed many other Peace Pagodas at different places. Nichidatsu Fujii is also famous as the founder of the Nipponzan-Myōhōji Buddhist Order.

I gathered more information on Peace Pagoda and the guide informed that the foundation stone of Peace Pagoda Darjeeling was laid in 1972 by and it was opened in November of 1992. The design and construction of the pagoda was done by M. Ohka, and it took entire two decades to complete the construction. The height of this pagoda is 28.5 meters and the diameter is about 23 meters.

Darjeeling Peace Pagoda is also called as the Japanese Peace Pagoda, which his at the slopes of the Jalaphar Hill near to the town. The Pagoda showcases the four major avatars of Lord Buddha, including the famous Maitreya Buddha. The center is open to people of all casts and races and the major objective of this construction is the propagate prosperity and peace in the entire world. The timing to visit Peace Pagoda is from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day and there is no entry fee for the visitors.
