Takht Sri Harmandir Sahib Ji Patna – The Birth Place of Guru Gobind Singh

September 26, 2015

After visiting the Agam Kuan now there was time for e to visit just one tourist attraction in the city. Hence I decided to visit the sacred Takht Sri Harmandir Sahib Ji in Patna. Patna holds tolerance for all religions and is a blend of various cultures and religions that have influenced the life and architecture of the city over the many ages in the past. Hence the last site that I wanted to visit in the city was this pious place for the Sikhs.

The city of Patna is a holy site as it has marked the presence of many great personalities such as Gautam Buddha, Guru Teg Bahadur Ji, Guru Nanak Dev Ji and it is also honoured as the birth place of the great Sikh guru, Guru Gobind Singh ji.

Born on the land of Patna on December 22nd in the year 1666 Guru Gobind Singh was the tenth Sikh Guru. Takht Patna Sahib as it is also known is one of the most sacred places for the Sikh community. The tenth Sikh Guru was born here and spent the early years of his life here. Later he moved to Anandpur.

Apart from being the birth place of Guru Gobind Singh Patna was also visited by Guru Teg Bahadur and Guru Nanak Dev in the past. There are in total just five holy seats of Sikhs Gurudwara Patna Sahib being one of them. This Gurudwara was built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh. He is also known for building several other Gurudwaras in India as well as in Pakistan.

Before moving to the holy site of Gaya, this is the place that Guru Nanak Dev visited during his life time. In the year 1934 many parts of Bihar were hit by a mighty earthquake as a result of which some parts of the Harmandir Sahib Ji were damaged. The reconstruction of the entire monument took place in the year 1954 which gave this pious site its present day shape. There are a number of historical relics housed at Takhat Patna Sahib.
