After having pleasant encounter with some beautiful birds, we headed towards our next destination- the Jawaharlal Nehru planetarium. The planetarium is on the T. Chowdiah Road in Bangalore. We reached there by cab. The building was nice. We entered the premises of the Jawaharlal Nehru planetarium.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium was established in the year 1989 and is considered amongst the top tourist’s attraction of the city. On the premises are sited the Science Centre and a Science Park. Since the year 1992, the planetarium is supervised by the Bangalore Association for Science Education (BASE) ‘which is devoted to propagation of science amid the public and the developing student community.

We entered the planetarium and came across the sky theater. It was facilitated with an enormous dome having diameter of no less than fifteen meters. The seating capacity of the theatre was of 225 and offer as the site for two daily shows of astronomy. The scheduled timings of the two shows are 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm, with Mondays as exception when no show is exhibited. It was the time for the first show of the day and we settled ourselves to witness the famous show. We were so delighted to see the display. Being science graduates, we connected to the theories in a fabulous way.

The show conducted was exceptionally good and provided a good vision along with the realistic understanding on astronomy. After the show, we headed for the observatory that is situated inside the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium. There we noticed a telescope on display. The information provided that it was a professional six-inch code refractor telescope. The prime motive in founding and establishing the planetarium was to increase the understanding and interest in astronomy. The easy explanations and presentation encouraged the students and other people to connect with the field of astronomy.

We, being science students ourselves never had such perspectives about astronomy, but the show and the entire planetarium did aroused our interest in astronomy. We came out with a different vision and now every time we will see towards the star studded sky, we may have a different perspective than before.
